Long Term Courses

1. Post Graduate Diploma in Rehabilitation Psychology (PGDRP)

The Problem of disability in India has been receiving attention from the government as well as from the voluntary sector for over a century. The rehabilitation of the disabled has been drawing the attention of the Government of India since 1987 (International year of the disabled ), and it has been found that the lack of appropriate trained manpower has been one of the major constraints in the expansion of rehabilitation services in the country.

It has therefore , been decided by the government of India in 1986 to set up a Rehabilitation council which would be responsible for various functions, the most important one being to develop and standardize training courses for professionals dealing with disabled persons. Time has come that we consolidate our efforts and offer substantial courses such as “Rehabilitation Psychology”. The RCI Manpower Development report (1996) has pointed out the need to train 2000-4000 Psychologists in IX & X plan periods with skill oriented professional courses. The trained personnel would be in a position to provide required psycho-social inputs in the area of rehabilitation services for any or all groups of individuals with disabilities.
